Adoption

The Process

A completed adoption application is required as the first step in matching available dogs to prospective homes on the basis of the needs of the dog and the preferences of the potential adoptive family. This form may be submitted electronically or printed and mailed to Belgian Tervuren Rescue, Inc., W4163 Cty Rd ES, Elkhorn, WI  53121 when completed.

BTR is committed to finding the most appropriate home for each dog; we do not place dogs on a first come/first serve basis. This website no longer showcases available dogs. Instead, BTR uses Belgian Tervuren Rescue Facebook page to post dogs available for adoption. However, applications that are currently on file from prospective adoptive homes are considered first which is why it is important to apply if you are truly interested in adoption. You will be contacted when we have a dog available that suits your requested needs and lifestyle.

People frequently ask how long they will have to wait to adopt a dog. Wait time varies based on your person requirements, available dogs and/or regional location. Applications will be kept on file for one year.

At the time of adoption, the adopter is required to sign an adoption contract which will be filled out by the foster caregiver. The adopter will be responsible for the necessary expenses associated with obtaining the dog such as transportation from the foster home. An adoption fee is required at the time of adoption. The standard adoption fee is $350 or the cost of expenses incurred on behalf of the dog. All dogs will be spayed/neutered, current on vaccinations, heartworm tested clear, free of parasites, and micro-chipped at the time of adoption. BTR will also provide an appropriate safe collar for the dog.
